would like to welcome Shanna Castle as the offical design consultant.

In November 2006, St. Edward Mercy Medical Center welcomed Neonatologist, Dr. Victor Coloso and launched a level 3 Newborn Intensive Care Unit. This unit provides the region a level of care for at-risk newborns. Historically many of these infants have required transport to distant facilities. Now, the majority of mothers and babies can stay together, right here at home, for the care they need.

When a baby requires additional at-home care the parents spend one day and night at the hospital taking care of their baby under the care of the medical staff. The parents learn to give needed medicine and how to operate medical equipment such as oxygen tanks and monitors.

The hospital has two stay-over rooms that are located across from the N.I.C.U. and next to Dr. Coloso’s office. As a mother who spent three night’s in one of those rooms with my son Alex I was grateful to have the opportunity to stay- over with him. During our stay my husband and I noticed that the rooms needed a few additional touches to make them more comfortable and relaxing for the parents.

Project: Pink and Blue is my way of saying “thank you” to
St. Edward Mercy Medical Center and the N.I.C.U. for providing a service that not only helps our community, but also saves the tiniest of lives.

What Is Project: Pink and Blue

Project: Pink and Blue is a project to design and redecorate the Newborn Intensive Care Unit stay-over rooms at St. Edward Mercy Medical Center. It will require direct community involvement. This will be done by 100% donation of time, talents, equipment, and furniture.

Who will this involve?

Project: Pink and Blue will require the help of many volunteers. Such as decorators, artist’s, craftsmen’s, and those who have a place in their heart for our tiny miracle’s.

All donations made to Project: Pink and Blue can be deducted from your taxes. Just make sure all checks are made to St. Edward Mercy Foundation and note, Project: Pink and Blue.

On August 24TH, 2007 my son Alex was born at St. Edward Mercy Medical Center. What made his arrival different from most was the fact that he was born 15 weeks early and weighed 1 pound 9 ounces and was 12 ½ inches long. That night I met Dr. Coloso and his staff as they were saving my son’s life. After a couple of hours the Angel One helicopter from Arkansas Children’s Hospital came and took my son away. The first eight weeks of his life was spent at Arkansas Children’s Hospital and the following seven weeks was spent back at St. Edward Mercy Medical Center. On December 10Th, 2007 Alex’s father and I finally took him home after 108 days in the N.I.C.U. As stated in the packet Project: Pink and Blue is my way of saying “thank you” to Dr. Coloso and his staff for saving my son’s life.

Your help is needed. In order for this project to be successful it will require financial or industrial donations from those who have a place in their hearts for our tiny miracles. I know that we can count on you. The Project: Pink and Blue committee will be accepting donations now through January 12Th, 2009. Our goal is to have this project completed by February 14Th, 2009, just in time for Valentine’s Day.

Any donation over $500.00 will qualify you to have you name or your company’s name on a plaque that will placed near the Parent Stay-Over Rooms and advertisement on my website www.christinastengel.weebly.com. If you feel that this is a project that you would like to fully support a donation of $10,000.00 will afford you or your company maximum visibility. The rooms will be named in your honor, your name placed on a plaque, and you or your company will receive additional publicity by St. Edward Mercy Medical Center and on my website www.christinastengel.weebly.com.

As a mom who spent three days with my son in one of the Parent Stay-Over rooms, I know first hand the need to make the rooms comfortable, stylish, and family friendly. I know that we can count on your help. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at 479-883-0743 or Sarah Wilson, Mercy Foundation Special Project Coordinator at 479-314-1138.

Thank You,

Christina Stengel
